Hello, I’m Rob MacIsaac, Chair of Metrolinx.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website.
Metrolinx is developing a Regional Transportation Plan – a comprehensive
blueprint for an effective, convenient, seamless transportation system , from
Hamilton, across the Greater Toronto Area to Durham and north through York
Region.
As we build this plan, we are undertaking an unprecedented consultation process,
gathering input from a wide range of stakeholders and the public – people like
you.
This consultation will include seven Green Papers – discussion documents we hope
you will take the time to read and comment on.
We have just released our sixth and seventh Green Papers. Paper #6 focuses on
Highways and Roads, and Paper #7 deals with Transit.
When thinking about our highways and roads, I know the first thing that comes to
most people’s minds is congestion. Our growing traffic problem is a key reason
why we need the strategic plan Metrolinx is now developing.
Now, we are not going to eliminate congestion entirely. Crowded roads are
actually a by-product of successful cities: it means a lot of people going
places and doing things – and that’s good. Having said that, there is much we
can do to improve vehicle flow – meaning less time stuck in traffic, and more
time for family and social activities.
Of course, the best way to improve traffic flow is to have fewer cars on the
roads. Which means more people taking public transit – the topic of our seventh
and final green paper.
Transit is, quite simply, the single most important component of our Regional
Transportation Plan – so we need to get it right. We want your input on how we
can make transit an attractive, preferred option for more people … how we can
improve things like comfort, convenience, safety, reliability, affordability –
to make sure we have a transit system people want to use.
We look forward to hearing your thoughts on these and other issues as we develop
the Regional Transportation Plan.
Improving our transportation system will require some careful thinking, and some
challenging decisions. Your input will help us make those decisions.
Again, thank you for participating.

Moving around a city, or a city-region like the Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton, is something that concerns every citizen. Whether we walk to the grocery store, or whether we run a business that moves millions of dollars worth of goods across Highway 401, we’ve all got ideas and opinions.
Metrolinx wants to ensure that, as it develops a Regional Transportation Plan for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, we hear from as many people as possible. Let's make this the best plan ever.
Metrolinx promises to engage transportation stakeholders, service providers
and the public in the work it is undertaking. This includes, but isn’t limited
to, development of a Regional Transportation Plan.
