Metrolinx promises to engage transportation stakeholders, service providers and the public the work it is undertaking. This includes, but isn’t limited to, development of a Regional Transportation Plan.
The communication will be:

We will close the loop too. You’ll be able to hear and read what others have told us and as much as possible, tell you how we’re using the input we receive.

Why consult?
Metrolinx wants the best regional transportation plan possible. We know that great ideas come from engaged communities, so we’ll seek that input in many ways.

We want the plan that we will develop and implement -- and the other work we will undertake -- to make a real difference in people’s lives, to improve their quality of life and even improve the environment. That means our consultation will be focused on getting insights and ideas from the users.

Metrolinx is constituted under Province of Ontario Legislation, which requires broad public consultation. Public consultations will ensure we respect the requirements of our governing legislation. Consulting in an open, responsive manner will also ensure a high degree of accountability to Metrolinx to both the government and the people of Ontario. This consultative approach is also likely to ensure the plan that’s developed is a success.

Who will be consulted?
Metrolinx is planning to undertake extensive consultations with people in the following categories. Please note, this is not an exhaustive list:

Community

Transportation

Infrastructure

INNOVATIVE THINKING
Madrid, Spain

Madrid has extended its metro system considerably over the last decade. Between 1999 and 2003, 55 kilometres of new lines and 36 new stations were constructed. In the current planning period, from 2003 to 2007, 84 kilometres of new line and 81 new stations are being added. This is a tremendous achievement. Additions in the current five-year period are greater than the entire Toronto subway system. This rapid expansion was made possible by a reorganization of the transit system in Madrid, the availability of European Union funds and a rapid construction program
